The prejudices that show abortionists don't want 'choice' - but simply more abortions

The leftwing website FiveThirtyEight has reported a decrease in the numbers of abortions in the United States since the US Supreme Court decision in Dobbs overturned Roe v Wade. Taking account of the decrease in the number of abortions in states where the deadly procedure was made illegal after Dobbs and the increase in States elsewhere where it remained legal, it found that there were about 10,000 fewer abortions overall.<a href="https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/overturning-roe-has-meant-at-least-10000-fewer-legal-abortions/"> They also concluded that “if these trends persist, there could be at least 60,000 fewer abortions in the next year as a result of the Dobbs decision”.&nbsp;</a> Most people would great this as good news, unless there is a corresponding increase in maternal or infant deaths. There is no evidence of this so far. But the article was lukewarm on the idea of fewer abortions overall. Although abortion advocates often say they are pro-choice and not pro-abortion, this piece seems to suggest otherwise.<a href="https://www.ansirh.org/sites/default/files/publications/files/the_harms_of_denying_a_woman_a_wanted_abortion_4-16-2020.pdf"> Pro-abortionists argue that denying a woman a “wanted abortion” exposes her to more long term hardships.&nbsp;</a> If this is indeed the case, and not the result of research bias, then surely it is up to us a society to make the changes needed that means women are not punished economically or otherwise for carrying their pregnancies to term and raising their child. Whatever injustices there are against women and children (and there are many) we should not tolerate the argument that ending the life of an unborn child is necessary to remedy those injustices. These latest statistics should be kept in mind when considered the ongoing campaign against the 8th amendment in Ireland. The 8th Amendment said, “The state acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, with due regard to the equal right to life of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect, and as far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right.” You would be correct in thinking that this amendment was overturned some years ago, and abortion on demand is available up to 12 weeks in Ireland. This is not enough however for the pro-abortion campaigners who continue to demonise the amendment that saved thousands of lives in Ireland.&nbsp; We can see that Dobbs has reduced the abortion rate in the US. In Northern Ireland the Advertising Standards Authority when considering the accuracy of a pro-life message, said that <a href="https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/ad-claiming-100-000-lives-saved-by-ni-abortion-laws-accurate-1.3174415">“on balance, we concluded that the evidence indicated that there was a reasonable probability that around 100,000 people were alive in Northern Ireland today who would have otherwise been aborted had it been legal to do so”.</a> Clearly if you legalise abortion you get more abortions. If you restrict abortions you get fewer of them, even taking into account that some women will travel to get an abortion (to other States in the case of the US, or to England in the case of Ireland). In sum, abortion kills. That’s the whole point of the procedure.&nbsp; Despite the fact that the eight amendment saved lives, pro-abortionists have continued to demonise it.&nbsp;
